Contractor Compensation & Workflow Automation
Business Challenge
Managing compensation for distributed contributors across multiple projects required working with different payment rates, recorded hours, and project-specific calculations.
As operations expanded, repeated manual calculations became increasingly time-consuming and difficult to manage consistently.
My Role
I designed and maintained an Excel-based compensation tracking system using structured data and formulas.
The objective was to simplify recurring calculations, improve consistency, and support financial administration across multiple workstreams.
Solution
- Organized contributor work records across multiple project categories.
- Structured working hours and project-specific compensation rates.
- Introduced formula-driven compensation calculations.
- Automated recurring arithmetic operations within spreadsheets.
- Maintained records for checking calculated amounts and preparing payouts.
- Improved the consistency of compensation administration.
- Used operational and financial data to identify discrepancies and support decision-making.

Outcome
Reduced dependence on repeated manual calculations and improved the consistency of contractor compensation records.
The system supported financial administration as the business grew to approximately 30–40 contributors.
Alongside spreadsheet-based improvements, broader internal software automation and operational changes contributed to an estimated 30% increase in project revenue.
This revenue improvement reflected multiple operational changes rather than a single spreadsheet implementation.
